TAQIZA HAS JUST OPENED ITS DOORS IN BONDI. YES!
It’s not often that you taste fan F*CKING tastic Mexican in Sydney. These places are few and far between and quite frankly, we’re left with a sobering taste in our mouth- is Sydney lacking when it comes to authentic Mexican? We’ve become uninspired by boring tacos, guacamole that’s been butchered by a blender and tired Margarita’s drenched in a suffocating rim of salt.
Last Friday was Cinco de Mayo and we were looking for one hell of a Taco Party that didn’t disappoint. Challenge accepted. We literally and figuratively met our match with the beautiful new restaurant Taqiza, opening its doors in the heart of Bondi. As a self-professed ‘ceviche & salad bar with imaginative tacos’, Taqiza delivered fresh, delicious and contemporary Mexican cuisine.
If you’ve lost faith in DARN GOOD MEXICAN like we had, we highly recommend visiting Taqiza. The place is small and cosy with an open kitchen and bar, plants draping the scaling mirror with beautiful hanging cane lights and stunning tiling.
The cocktail menu focuses on millenarian Mexican liquors and the team have curated an impressive Mexican and South American inspired selection. With a yearning to stick to the favourites, we sipped on the Classic Margarita, which did not disappoint. If you’re a spice addict, the Jalapeno margarita will hit the spot and for Mojito lovers, try the Mezcal mojito.
As promised, Taqiza delivers healthy, authentic Mexican. The Tuna ceviche bowl gives all those Poke bowls you’ve tried a run for their money. Oh, and you know those boring tacos we said we despised earlier- well you won’t find them here. From Ox tongue, BBQ salmon barramundi and beef cheeks, rest assured you’ll be experiencing a flavour sensation in the taco department. It’s a fully fledged taco party at Taqiza.
Don’t fill up too fast because dessert awaits. The avocado and chocolate mousse with coconut rolls are LITERALLY all time. The mousse is not sickeningly rich and the avocado balances the flavour to perfection. It’s healthy too, right?
Cancel your dinner reservations and head down to Taqiza ASAP. Mexican cuisine, done perfectly.
