Walking into our favourite YUM cha venue LL Wine and Dine in Potts Point we meet the very glamorous Jenn Phipps. A self professed FOODIE, and lover of all things related to wining and dining, she’s here to dish out all her favourite things to do in Sydney. What better place to do it than at the ultimate ALL YOU CAN EAT venue and one of her top restaurant picks in Sydney- LL Wine and Dine.
We’re here to sample their Sunday Special- all you can eat YUM CHA for only $30 a head. This is the perfect Sunday session with delectable food and cocktails that will leave any hang over from the weekend behind.
Before we dish the dirt on our favourite Kolider Jenn Phipps, we have to tell you about the feast we all shared over a couple of cocktail jugs. You’ve got to start with the edamame – that’s a given and we’d also suggest trying the crispy tofu – drizzled with with a black sesame and tahini sauce, snow pea sprouts and finished with seaweed and nanami togarashi seasoning. PLEASE don’t forget the crispy pork belly, wrapped in the most delicious palm sugar, kaffir lime leaf and rice vinegar syrup finished with crushed peanuts and fresh herbs.
OKAY- now for the YUM CHA. God, where do we begin because it’s all you can EAT ladies and gents. We followed Jenn’s lead. We suggest you order everything- because it’s all equally as delicious and you’re only paying 30 a head. Lets start with the dumplings- some of the best we’ve tried. Choose between mouthwatering prawn, pork, shanghai, vegetable and chive. These combinations come together and separately and let me tell you- the prawn, pork and chive combo was unbeatable. Don’t forget to order the spring rolls- vegetable and chicken- with the most perfect golden crunch. Last but not least- the pork spare ribs covered in the most scrumptious black bean sauce will NOT disappoint.
You certainly can’t eat without drinks, and Miss Jenn Phipps is a firm believer in that. The cocktails are made to drink quickly. They’re delicious, light and refreshing and guess what- you can order JUGS as well. How good. We suggest trying the ginger and lychee martini or the botanical fling- it’s loaded with gin, elderflower, cucumber, kaffir lime and fresh lemon juice. The drinks are FLOWING, the food is in abundance and we’re sitting at one of Jenn Phipps favourite spots in Sydney. She gives us her take on the ultimate Sydney experience- where to eat, drink play and party. Here’s what we discovered.

My top 3 breakfast spots would have to be Bar Indigo in Double Bay for their Eggs Benedict or Breakfast Bruschetta, I love the Avocado & Tomato plus the delicious fresh pastries at The Balmoral Boatshed & the Pancakes at Harry’s in Bondi. I also love the Truffle Scrambled Eggs at Cafe Morso in Pyrmont.
Best places to grab a drink in Sydney?
Palmer & Co is awesome, I love going there for a bottle of wine and their Charcuterie board. There’s always a cool vibe and I like that it’s underground and you feel like you’re in a speakeasy. I also love The Lobo Plantation which is a rum bar with really good cocktails. They’re good spots to go to during the week after work for a drink! To go and have a night out, my favourite spot would have to be Pelicano in Double Bay and definitely The Island during Summer.
Best restaurants in the Sydney’s CBD and what would you order?
I love Fratelli Fresh on Bridge Street for their Zucchini Flowers, Arrancini balls, Spaghetti Carbonara and of course the Banoffee Pie! But I get it without banana because I’m mentally allergic to them! Sake in The Rocks is another favourite of mine and great if you’re looking to eat something light. I love their Kingfish Jalapeño, Prawn Shumai and Miso Toothfish! And my go to cocktails are the Miss Wednesday & Pink Blossom. So refreshing and delicious!
Best places for a hang over meal?
I love going to Grandma’s Bakery after a big weekend on a Sunday. They have two locations – one in Alexandria and one in Rosebery. I always get the Bolognese Shakshuka Eggs and I never leave without getting cookies to take home. They have the best cookies in the world! I’m obsessed with the Chocolate Crackle Snow cookies, they literally melt in your mouth. Either that or I get dumplings and noodles at Din Tai Fung or Chinese Noodle House in Chinatown.
Best late night dining spots in Sydney?
Barrio Chino is always open late and has an awesome Tequila bar! They also have one of the best burgers in Sydney, as well as the best taco’s! Cafe Roma in Kings Cross is an old favourite of mine too and always a safe bet. I always get the Truffle Mushroom Gnocchi, Proscuitto & Rocket Pizza and of course Nutella Pizza for dessert.
Best places for sushi/Japanese in Sydney?
I love Zushi in Surry Hills, Sokyo at The Star, Sake in The Rocks and Sushi-e in the Ivy. They all have really fresh sashimi and really good, modern rolls that you wouldn’t find at your regular sushi restaurant. I always like to get the chef’s specialty rolls and try something new. Raw Bar in Bondi is also one of my favourite places to go during Summer.
Best place to eat dessert in Sydney?
Ah i have so many! I don’t have a sweet tooth, I have sweet teeth so I live for dessert. The Tres Leches cake from Spice Temple is ridiculous! Alpha’s Greek Honey Donuts “Loukoumades,” are unbelievable. Hartsyard in Newtown has a new Sundae every week and the flavours they come up with are insane. I follow them on Instagram to keep up with the new flavour whenever it changes (Kolide should start posting the new flavour every week they’re out of control). I also love the desserts at Ms G’s – the Stoners Delight is a heart attack waiting to happen but definitely worth every calorie. Pasticceria Papa in Bondi is amazing and open until late every night – they’re famous for their incredible Ricotta Cheesecake – I get the Nutella filled one. I’m also obsessed with their Canoli and their Strawberry Tarts.
Favorite lunch spots in Sydney and what for?
If I want go for a fancy lunch, definitely Icebergs, Otto, Catalina or Chiswick! If I’m looking for something more casual, I love Three Williams in Redfern, they have the best chips and “Narnies” which are like giant taco’s in Naan Bread. Their French Toast with Yoghurt & Berries are also to die for! And I love Jackie’s in Paddington. If I’m trying to be healthy, I’ll go there and get the Salmon Sashimi Salad. Otherwise during Summer, definitely somewhere by the beach or on the water like The Bucket List or North Bondi Fish.
Best restaurants in Sydney and what would your Kolide tips be for each one?
Buffalo Dining Club has to be one of the coolest little restaurants in Sydney. Their Gnocchi and their pasta that comes out in the Cheese Wheel is ridiculous! Bistro Moncur is definitely a unique experience, you’ve got to try their French Onion Souffle and Minute Steak with Cafe De Paris Butter. China Doll for their corn and zucchini fritters & Pork Belly, and it’s always nice to go there for a boozy lunch / dinner with friends because it’s right on the Wharf. Black by Ezard if I want go to a fancy restaurant and eat a delicious steak & they have the most delicious bread ever. I also love Riley Street Garage in Woolloomoolloo, the interior is probably my favourite restaurant fit out in Sydney. I literally go there to sit at the bar and order cocktails with a dozen of their Smokey Soy Truffle Oysters, Truffle Mash, Fries & Chorizo Corn Dogs. My favourite cocktails there are the Judo Chop and the Citrus Blossom.
What’s your favourite meal deal in Sydney?
I love the Tuesday Special at The Passage because they have different deals on every night but every Tuesday it’s 50% off all food which ends up being a really great deal. They have the best Zucchini Flowers I’ve ever tasted and they make great cocktails! It’s always fun to go there for dinner as well, they play good music and it’s open until late. They also have the best sliders in town.

What’s your best local advice on where to eat and drink around your area?
I live right on Danks St so I’m surrounded by so much good food which is a blessing and a curse at the same time. I eat out for every meal, it’s actually ridiculous! It makes me fat and poor but I’m too spoilt for choice where I am. I love going to Kepos St Kitchen for lunch for their Steak Sandwich! Definitely the best I’ve ever eaten. I’m also right near Salt Meats Cheese and they just opened a new pizza restaurant there called “The Pizza Box” where they have a squid ink base lobster pizza and I get emotional thinking about how good it is. They also deliver truffle mac n cheese which is the best / worst thing that ever happened to me.
Best burgers in Sydney?
I’m a burger fanatic and have made it a mission to find the best burger in Sydney but I can’t choose one! So in no order; The Royale with Cheese from The Neighbourhood ,Barrio Torta from Barrio Chino ($10 on Thursdays), New York Cheeseburger from Bowery Lane , The Truffle Burger from Mister Gee’s Burger Truck and the Double Beef & Bacon Burger from Mary’s.
What did you love about LL wine and dine’s Sunday Yum Cha?
The fact that it’s all you can eat yum cha for only $30 is amazing! You can sample a bit of everything which is such a good deal, and they probably have one of the best cocktail menu’s in Sydney!
