Gluten-Free , Plant Based BLOODY YUM-CHA!
The Queen of duck pancakes is back with a new creation involving contemporary yum cha. Can we guess who it is? Will give you a clue, her name begins with Miss….(come on think about it)…
C..H..UUUUU of course! Miss Chu aka Nahji Chu.
New name, new start. The new yum cha venue Cha Li Boi has heavy emphasis on serving up gluten free and plant based dishes. The menu is headed by former Billy Kwong chef John Leon, who has created exciting dishes that you wouldn’t usually see on your classic yum cha menu.
There is no shortage of dumplings to choose from, all filled with sustainable and native ingredients (which yea, made me feel not as bad while stuffing my face). Don’t be surprised if your dumplings resemble small fish – this is what I mean by contemporary Yum cha!
Can’t go past the fact the menu features the newly famous soup dumpling. If you haven’t been living under a rock for the last few months, you would of seen these larger than life dumplings all across your social feeds. They do not come out in a “soup” but in a matter of fact the “soup ” is inside the dumpling – hence why you have the pleasure of enjoying the first half of your dumpling with a straw.
The overall vibe of the space is clean and modernistic, a huge space far away from the hole in the wall kind of vibe that the former Miss Chu chain had . Great for big groups and special occasions or when you’re hung as hell on a Sunday ;).
