Palm trees, Sun, Salt and Sand…. We have arrived in the picturesc destination of Palm Beach. Lunch is taking place at the one and only Boathouse Palm Beach, known for its Insta worthy décor and idyllic location. We are joined today with well-known Palmy locals, Bella & Indy Clinton. The Palm Beach Boathouse has been one of their go to places for years now and they can safely say they are part of the Boathouse family! The Boathouse blessed us with an amazing spread of delicious food and drinks. Served with particular effort, it looks too good to eat! Over copious amounts of delicious food, a rosé in hand (Berry smoothie for Indy!) we chatted with the trendsetter sisters about life in Palm Beach. Both Born and Bred Palmy residents have a passion for food, fashion & surfing that has earned them a heavy following on Instagram! Picture perfect view, mouth-watering food, drinks on tap & mighty fine company our day couldn’t get much better. What are you waiting for Koliders? It’s your turn! Get down to The Boathouse Palm Beach; there will be no regrets.
How do you find out where to go and what to do in your every day lives?
I: Well seeing as the Northern Beaches is a tight knit community we find out about new places through friends and word of mouth.
B: Yeah, word spreads pretty quickly up here so if a great new café or bar has opened or there is a cool band playing somewhere we will always hear about it.
I: But if we want to do something different and head to the city on the weekend then we will check out Kolide and see what is on.
Where’s the best coffee around here?
What are your top favourite local café’s?
I: Boathouse in Palmy is our all time fave… best view, coffee and flowers! Greedy Goat is a local secret and has the best corn and zucchini fritters
Any secret hidden beach spots around here we might not know about?!
I: Well it’s not very secret but the Pittwater side of Palm Beach such as Snapperman Beach is still pretty undiscovered. Afternoon as the sun is setting is Pitty Prime Time.
B: I love a good topless sunbake at the North end of Whale Beach (The Wedge), there’s hardly any people up there… just heaps of hot surfers out at Wedge to keep you entertained.
Where is your favourite spot for a morning Surf?
B: We love The Wedge (Whale Beach). Be careful though as it’s pretty local and territorial, so helps to know a few of the guys out there.
I: Yeah, but no one cares if you are a girl surfer… you can basically catch any wave you want and drop in and the boys won’t say anything! Palmy is fun for a mal too.
How did you girls get into surfing?
I: We both started young because we have three brothers.
B: Yeah, I was about 6 and was always trying to keep up with boys.
Other than surfing, what are some other things you girls do to keep in such good shape!? AND What’s the best walking track in palmy?
B: I do lots of yoga and am always walking the dog. Walking along the from Whale Beach to Palm Beach and all the way up to the lighthouse is a marathon but worth it.
I: Yeah, I love walking up to the lighthouse especially now that it is all burnt as you can explore the whole headland and the view is amazing.
You girls love to cook? What are some of your signature dishes?!
I: Haha the only thing Bella knows how to make is hommus… or eggs.
B: I can make smoothies… but India is the good cook… she’s a foodie haha she does food tech as school so she knows how to make all these gourmet dishes.
I: I’d say bruschetta, prawn stirfry and brownies are my specialty.
Where is your favourite place to go for a chilled drink?
B: I love Barrenjoey House because it’s literally down the hill and fun to settle in there for a night with friends… Newport Arms is good for a chilled bevvy too otherwise we grab drinks from Palm Beach Food and Wine and head to the Pittwater side or Paradise Beach as the sun goes down.
Where’s the best place to be on a Saturday night around here?
B: Flaring at a local house party haha… otherwise I’d be at La De Da in Mona or heading out to the city and beyond!
Where are your favourite dinner spots?
How do you organize activities with friends?
I: By texting or calling and Facebook.
Where do you girls like to shop around here?
What’s the recipe for the perfect instragram?! What do you recommend as a must have editing app?
I: Well you have to make it look like you are always doing fun and exciting things…. Even if you’re not! No one wants to see how bored you are at school so I always make sure I get lots of photos on the weekend when I’m out and about.
I like to edit my photos but make sure they still look natural… AfterLight is a really cool editing app with lots of different filters.
It also helps when the person taking the photo knows what angles are good as well… ain’t no filter that can fix a double chin!
What are some of your favourite pieces currently in your wardrobe?
I: I’m a bit obsessed with leather shorts at the moment, we’ve got them in black and white. I think stripes are always in, and I also love leather, high top sneakers.
How do you find traveling back and forth to Work and school in the North Shore? What is that one song that you have on replay at the moment?
B: You just get used to it… traffic is the pits but when we drive up together it’s better because we pump the music and have a laugh.
B: I’m still obsessed with ‘Ryan Hemsworth’s Perfectly’, ‘Sundream’ by RUFUS, Chet Faker’s new song ‘Gold’ and you can’t go past good old Eric Clapton ‘Cocaine’ and the acoustic version of ‘Layla’…. Frrrroth
What do you Love about The Boathouse Palm Beach
I: We LOVE the Boathouse, it’s our local so we know everyone that works there, the coffee is amazing and the food is delicious!
B: It’s the best… from the fresh flowers to the rows of pineapples the Boathouse has the Palmy vibe. We usually walk the dog or ride our bikes down and sit in the sun sipping coffee with salty hair.
What do you recommend?
I: The smoothies and frappes, quinoa bircher for breakfast and the beer battered fish and chips for lunch.
B: The chai tea is heaven, and there’s nothing better than sitting on the deck drinking rosè with a bucket of prawns and smoked trout pate.
What do you like about Kolide?
I: I love how up to date and reliable it is. The Kolide Instagram and blog are so good as there are recommendations and deals posted everyday and cover everything from cool cafes, to lunch specials and 2 for 1 happy hour.
B: It’s really handy for us when we are out and about and say we are not sure where to go for lunch, we can easily check Kolide and see what cafes they recommend. Anything Kolide says is good is definitely worth checking out!
